Love this Lin. I too have lovely memories of sheltering from the relentless strong sou’easters behind Hunter Island. In our case there was another boat in the anchorage, which we had seen in other anchorages but hadn’t yet met the people aboard. So we put our dinghy in the water and motored over the next morning with a batch of fresh scones and enjoyed coffee and scones with jam and cream followed by lunch with too much red wine. The next day we enjoyed skittles type game called Finka on the beach with them and then dinner aboard our boat. We are still in contact. All it took was to get our dinghy down and go across and meet them.

Today we are in Tonga, and similarly deviated to visit a new boat into the anchorage and had some very pleasant drinks aboard. Some more new friends made. All it takes is to make a tiny effort and people become friends for life!

I hope your peaceful trend is continuing, Lin. Those are some of my favorite times aboard as well, and try to emphasize the beautiful of our liveaboard lives.

I write SPARRING WITH MOTHER NATURE and would be honored to have you aboard...I've admired your writing and your tenacity for years. 45 years ago you and Larry shared some time and marinas with my husband and his family in Annapolis, on and off.

We just relaunched after a two-year rebuild and I'm anxious for a day as you describe here....enjoy!
